Latte, God love this little girl who scares me almost to death every time she has babies! She is actually retiring this year I believe lol. She slept all day on the 27th and had a water sac/bubble by 9 pm that night. She labored slowly all night and no matter how many times I go through this, I feel like it's the first time every time. There is a good reason for this feeling though. You just never know when things could go wrong! No labor and delivery is ever the same and it certainly is not text book! The last thing anyone should ever do is google "what does it mean when..." because you will get the worst case scenario EVERY TIME! What do you think I did though? lol
I slept on the couch with her next to me in her whelping pen. I believe it was about 5 am when I decided I would just get some sleep and take her to the vet when they open (she had started to show some green discharge between 3 and 4 am which is not a good sign). She really wasn't pushing at all but she was so uncomfortable and she gets really sick (vomits) when in labor a lot. So I had to monitor her sugar levels and keep her hydrated all night. I dozed off for maybe an hour and realized she was digging A LOT MORE than she did all night. I kept watching the time and decided to check on her one more time before I closed my eyes. Low and behold...she was pushing a puppy out! Yay!
At 7:30 am, sweet little Bitsy made her appearance weighing in at 4.1 ounces. What a sigh of relief for her and me! I was a bit more relaxed and not tired at all anymore! I rested a bit though and by 9:56 am, puppy number 2 arrived! This one we call Micro and she was a whopping 2.5 ounces when born. I could tell Latte was not finished but at this point she had enough laboring and time passed. I knew something was not right for her to have green discharge in the middle of the night. That is usually a sign of the placenta detachment. So I administered oxytocin about 30 mins after puppy number two was born and sure enough, she had a third puppy. This is the root of the problem. It was a stillborn baby boy that likely passed in the last couple of days due to placenta detaching. Momma Latte and babies are doing great though! We waited to post this litter because of how tiny the babies were. They are thriving now and we are offering them now to be reserved.

Little Bitsy is a black female poodle puppy that will likely turn silver. She could be blue but my guess is silver right now. They do not always start turning color for weeks. This tiny little girl is Micro. She was born the cream color but it is possible that she turns more apricot as her fur grows. Time will tell! She was one of our smallest puppies here and we wanted to be sure she was doing great before we offered her up to be reserved. She is doing awesome and getting chunky from mommas rich milk. She is charting 3 - 3 1/2 pounds full grown. She should be ready to go to her new home around February 22nd. She will see our vet for an exam, fecal, and first shots. The Silver Lining Litter

Libby Lu and Stormy's two babies came early! Not by a lot but definitely not when I expected. I was in the middle of a Facetime phone call with a customer wanting to see one of our puppies and hubby was taking care of the poodles for me. We were in two different locations as we are moving locally, from one farm to another. Half of our farm was moved and part of the poodle kids were in one location and the others, another. It was a very hectic time but I have to first explain that my husband loves the dogs, can feed, clean up after them, make sure everyone is okay, and check on puppies for me without a worry in the world. Whelping, well that's another story lol.
In the middle of my Facetime call I get two phone calls beeping in from hubby. I ignore them of course and figure that my daughter who was over would get a call from him if it was important. Not the case! Next to follow was a text that read:
"I AM DELIVERING PUPPIES! I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING!!!"
I tried to remain calm and not startle my customer on the other end of the phone and told her I needed to get off the phone, I thought I may have a slight emergency. I was getting strange messages from hubby and I would call her back. Of course she was understanding and I hurried and called my husband.
Hubby was not calm, I hear, "I walked in and she was screaming and there was something sticking out of her butt". He was freaking out a bit! He calmed down and he started telling me what he was doing and what was going on. See, normally I would have momma dog with me at this time but dummy me thought, oh she has several days, what are the chances? So I didn't take her with me on the quick trip to the other house. I should have known because she had a very odd timed heat cycle.
Hubby then states that he grabbed paper towels, was drying off the puppy and clearing its nose of mucus. But before that, he stated, "there was cellophane on its face that I had to get off " (the sac). Next he tells me, "It has attachments hanging from it!". At this. point my daughter and I are both in the room and laughing so hard. We tell him that is the umbilical cord and placenta. He proceeds to Facetime me now. He is told to leave the cord, it won't hurt anything. He was very happy about that! Then all of a sudden there is another puppy and he is besides him self lol. Process starts all over again. We are making sure the pups are okay, breathing well, not struggling and they are warm. Hubby now is told to feel her belly and palpate to see if there are any more puppies in which he was not a fan of. He did so and didn't think he felt anything more. He relaxes as pups are now curled up with mom and his job is over. His next words out of his mouth are "I'm a dad!" with a big smile on his face LOL. Enjoy the screenshots of hubby that my daughter captured as I was Face-timing him. This was our funniest whelping story yet. It could have ended badly so we are thanking God for the blessing of these two new babies and a healthy mommy!
To end it, hubby tells me, "They are good now. They are breast feeding" LOL LOL LOL

Grayson - Silver Phantom Male

Cute little Grayson is a rare phantom poodle! I say rare because phantoms are more common in the larger poodles. Lots of miniatures have phantom markings and a lot of breeders offer toy poodles that are phantom marked but many go over size and are truly miniatures. Macaron and Teton's litter of 5 were born on December 21st. I knew she was ready to have her babies but wasn't sure when she would start pushing. All day, my sweet girl acted like she wasn't feeling the best then at 9:05pm she pushed out her first puppy. He is a black parti male, birthweight 5.1 ounces and we are calling him our little Pooh Bear. Next she stunned me with a gorgeous sable parti female at 10pm, birthweight 6 oz and we are still not sure what her name is just yet. She is staying with us. Soon after, puppy number three arrived, a black abstract female we are calling Stitch. Her birthweight was 5.1 ounces and she was born at 10:30 pm. Next we had puppy number four at 10:58 pm and thought it might be the last in the litter. This was beautiful Olaf, a black parti male with a birth weight of 5.6 ounces. Last but not least, Macaron completed he large litter at 11:16 pm with a tri girl weighing 5.1ounces. We are considering keeping this baby girl as well. These are all nice size puppies and all doing very well. Momma is a champ! She does great with her babies and we are so proud of her...and her beautiful litter!

Lemon and Teton's litter of three were born December 19th. To say I wasn't nervous is an understatement. Lemon is not a small toy poodle but her last litter ended in a c-section. I wanted to skip breeding her for fear of another c-section but my vet assured me that she should do just fine and to breed her. At 7:31 pm, our cute little brown parti male (5.1) was born. Lemon is a great mom so she spent the next hour cleaning and nurturing this little guy. Before you know an hour had passed and puppy number two was born. An apricot parti male (4.9) was born at 8:35pm. He was so light in color that I couldn't tell for sure if he was cream or apricot parti. Lemon tried to relax and let her babies nurse but buy 10:13, puppy number three was born. This was her last baby born and it was a brown abstract girl (5.1). This was a pretty quick and uneventful delivery. What a blessing! Momma and babies are doing amazing!
