The sable gene (cchl) is recessive to full color (C) and chinchilla (cchd) but dominate to pointed white (ch) and rew (cc). The sable gene removes most of the yellow pigment to the hair but not all of it like the chinchilla gene, Sable gene also leaves point color darker while body color is lighter. When breeding sable its best to avoid breeding to chocolate or chocolate carriers since Chocolate and lilac based sable varieties are not showable (with exception to chocolate pearl and lilac pearl which are showable). Any agouti color, chinchilla, Blue eyed white (including VM and VC animals) and fawns should also be avoided as well. Sable is best bred to self colors (black, blue), pointed white (black or blue), black and blue based torts, other sable colors, and self based rews.
